I recently sold my hatchback because I am having another kid, and felt I needed to be a little more reponsible. (the hatch couldn't fit a/c.)
heres some pics

I plan to do this build right. Bodywork, repaint and clean everything!

First thing I did before selling my car was to switch most of my suspension and brakes. I swapped my rear trailing arms (gsr brakes brembo rotors, energy suspension urethane, asr subframe brace, ITR rear sway bar, Skunk2 lca and rear camber kit). I also switched my front brake setup ( gsr brakes brembo rotors and Skunk2 camber kit). I decided Not to keep the Function Form type 2 coilovers because the BCs ride WAY better. I am rocking polished Rotas untill I can find a good deal on some Spoons or Regas, which I will strip and polish anyway.

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g302/CaseyCoker/010.jpg

I noticed a strong smell of raw fuel-- I was stumped to where it was coming from. But come to find out, while I was removing the amp and all the wires, one of the screws ( uses as a ground) was screwed right through the tank!
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g302/CaseyCoker/006.jpg

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g302/CaseyCoker/014.jpg

All the windows had double tint on them. I removed all but one stubborn layer on the back.
I put in my delsol seats and stripped out the carpet. I HATE carpet, even in my house. I wish my wife's element sc came with the rubber floors.
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g302/CaseyCoker/009.jpg
replaced headlights
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g302/CaseyCoker/008.jpg
I also upgraded my wiring harness. The new wiring harness I bought was way better. It was a straight forward install. I can understand why I read nothing but good reviews about Hybrid. Everyone I talked to was very nice, and answered every question I had, no matter how stupid it was. I will deal with them and them only from now on.

I replaced the single radiator with an aluminum one. ( i wish I had seen hybris rad before I bought this one. The fan switch and temp sensor would look a whole lot better on the rad than the hose.) With some very appreciated advise I wire the fan back to stock.

I took out the cruise control and a couple other wires as well, and added an alarm.
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g302/CaseyCoker/012.jpg

I also
put my etd traction bar on
installed my wooden nardi steering wheel
new windshield

I will be busy between cleaning this beast , and making a nursery for my new baby, and redoing a bathroom. So forgive me If this goes slower than other "builds". --Casey

I've been a little busy, but a couple updates. I am still trying to find out what is draining my battery. When I got the battery tested, everything was fine. I hope it is not my alarm. I also found another little problem----
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g302/CaseyCoker/006-1.jpg

Leaking Clutch master cylinder. I was going to purchase an Omni, but I have been reading bad reviews about them failing. So I might just go with a stock replacement from Autozone for now.

I am waiting to install my steering wheel, because I want to sure my alignment is good.
Don't laugh but I love my steering wheel!
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g302/CaseyCoker/007.jpg
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g302/CaseyCoker/008-1.jpg

And I think I am going to retract my whole going with stock paint. I've had this paint for a couple of months now and the paradise blue green just aint doing it for me. I don't know I might change my mind again. But with this paint, I can take my time. It is a flat color with clear mixed in. I will either cut and polish this or just add a clear.
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g302/CaseyCoker/009-1.jpg

Sorry so slow but I will get there. Back to painting my new kids nursery!--Casey

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g302/CaseyCoker/014-1.jpg

Oh, I solved my "charging" problem. I checked to see if there was anything pulling when the car was off. I checked every fuse. I checked my altenator. After checking everything except my battery( because it was an "optima"), I checked it with my multimeter 12.56, 20 min later 12.20, 20 min later 12.11....... Then I purchased a new one with a three year warranty!

I want to polish my fuel rail, but I like the HR fuel rail better. Anyone want to buy a shiney black GE fuel rail?

Time to polish! ---Casey

The new harness is great. It was so simple to install. It seems like ALOT of other people think the same, because when I look at the spec list in the magazines the one thing I see more than others is H-R's pnp harness. I am proud to have such a nice company to deal with so close to me. I am used to dealing with companies in the other LA!

As soon as I get the rbc and other peices put on I will drop by to get it tuned. I still need to get the ac components. It will be nice to have a dyno tune instead of just a street tune i had on my h22.

I went to the U-pull it places to find a door the other day. There weren't any doors left, so I decided to look for some a/c parts. I found the three lines and two dryers (one from the same 95 coupe, and another from a gsr integra [both look identical]). I came home from baby shopping today to find the a/c kit from Hybrid. When cleaning some of the parts I found, I decided to see if everything fit.

The two dryers-

This line and switch came off the same 95-
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g302/CaseyCoker/013-3.jpg

Here is where I ran into a problem--
The hole seems to line up(hybrid line)--
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g302/CaseyCoker/011-3.jpg

BUT--
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g302/CaseyCoker/012-3.jpg

O.E.M. line left, Hybrid right
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g302/CaseyCoker/015-3.jpg

Where did I screw up?

I was looking at the pictures and part numbers in the instructions on this site when I noticed a couple of things--
1. the o.e.m. line on the car in the pics has a window on top of the dryer.
The three lines I have came off a 95 (no window). 94-95 different w/ 134a?

2. The line part numbers seem to be different though when comparing the different years.
when looking on Majestic Hondas website, they list 2 different part numbers for the oem line that connects to the dryer(92-93 and 94-95 respectively). But where it confuses me is they list the 92-93 dryer as 134a.

What do I need to do?

hybrid racing
06-25-2009, 03:47 AM
You need a dryer from a 92-93 civic. We modded the kit based on the fact that you had the parts under the dash from a 95 but no parts in your engine bay. I was under the impression you were getting 92-93 parts for the bay.

Give us a call and we can fix the line or you can just swap the dryer.

cute huh?

I have been piling parts for the car and finishing up my manifold and valve cover.
I decided against polishing everything because-
1.This is what my paint is going to look like-

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g302/CaseyCoker/pup007.jpg
Once you go flat you don't go back. Plus its my car and I figure I like it why not.

2. I seen this on H-T and LOVE it. I think it would go with the paint more than BLING BLING polish. Everything aluminum will look like this. It also reminds me of my shift knob.

O.K. let me share my day with Yall

Had to take my little boy to the Doctor today (He is awesome!). Decided to stop by Acura to get a valve cover gasket set. Thats right they only sell it in a set. I also picked up some Honda bond, which they don't exactly like to give away. Came home after a quick stop at Babies R Us (don't get me started). I have had my rbc for months now, so I decided to slap her on.

On with the pictures-

Spent a little money on these items-
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g302/CaseyCoker/IMG_0229.jpg

Decided it might be smart to actually blow off some of the funk so the inside don't look like the outside.
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g302/CaseyCoker/IMG_0230.jpg

Started to take off the stock I.M. I got all the bolt/nuts off and couldn't get the manifold off. So I took the studs out too.
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g302/CaseyCoker/IMG_0231.jpg

Ewwww
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g302/CaseyCoker/IMG_0232.jpg

I didn't get alot of pics of the install because the rain was a comin'
Got the RBC on and took the throttle body inside for a good cleaning. I decided to take David and Will's advice and clean this little sucker out.
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g302/CaseyCoker/IMG_0233.jpg

Here is a sucky pic of the manifold and valve cover installed because of rain
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g302/CaseyCoker/IMG_0235.jpg

After installing the RBC, I found that the fan and upper radiator hose are now in the way. I proceeded to take off the fan to flip it to the front. In doing so, i also decided to make the fan a pusher instead of the puller. Sounds easy huh? Well I pulled off the retaing clip to the blades and went to pull the blades off. It was rusted to the shaft. So I tapped it with a hammer....nothing. Little harder...nothing. Harder still....nothing. Harder... BAM! The shaft came out the back of the casing. OOOOPs! Oh well it looks old and worn out.
I went and got a 14" fan.
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g302/CaseyCoker/IMG_0240.jpg
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g302/CaseyCoker/IMG_0237.jpg
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g302/CaseyCoker/IMG_0236.jpg

I didn't take a pic of the hose though ( it looks like a hose). H-R should put together a silicone hose kit.*HINT*

Tommorow I will get the rest put back together and go see if the RBC gives me 87.932 more whp!

*******side note******* COMPLAINTS
What the heck is the purpose of the nipple coming out the top of the RBC manifold by the injectors?

Does anyone else"s head look like it has acne in the intake ports?

The other day went to install the 14" fan in front of the radiator. Well I was really close to breaking out the grinder and doing some fabrication. The Fedex man put a stop to that. I had previously ordered a 12" fan from Hybrid for my a/c condensor.Thank God he delivered on time. That one fits really good in front of the radiator.I returned the 14" for a 12" to replac the a/c one. I hooked up everything and pluged the Kpro in. My temp got to about 210 and I shut it down. I am so use to the H22, that I plugged the raditor fan into the condensor plug. I'm still getting use to having a K. I can further say that the car does feel alltogether different since the RBC install. I can say that I am happy with that purchase. I can't wait to get it tuned though.

Does anyone know if the Jackson Racing supercharger fit with a/c in a Civic? I found out that the Kraftwerks supercharger mounts in place of the a/c compressor. No go for me. My a/c install has been put on hold for a couple of days. The compressor I was going to use has been on the car with lines open for a while. I have pics of the JR supercharcher installed that have plenty of room for a/c. I have never had a supercharger. So i don't know any negatives. I also don't know the extent of the abuse on the motor I have now. But, I love it. Should I save the 3k for the sc kit or just do an NA k24? I don't know which would be more reliable. Or which would be more price wise. I just don't want to waste money.

Man there is alot of people on this forum these days!

Alright on with the pics--

I got my brand new compressor the other day
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g302/CaseyCoker/IMG_0328.jpg

I put everything in and went to get the a/c vacuumed and charged. We heard hissing!!!! The pressure switch's o-ring would not seat right, so we put a tighter o-ring on. Then charged it up a little more. The compressor would not kick on, so we had to delay the rest of the charge. Today after calling Will several times(THANKS SO MUCH WILL!!!!!), I traced my problem to a bum relay.
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g302/CaseyCoker/IMG_0330.jpg

I replaced the relay and on went the compressor!!! I went to finish charging the a/c and put a little more in and went to check the vents. I had a/c!!! BUT, while checking the vents I saw vapor coming from under the hood!!!! DADGUMIT!! The o-ring blew out again!
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g302/CaseyCoker/IMG_0333.jpg
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g302/CaseyCoker/IMG_0335.jpg

Now I have one more problem-- My compressor won't go off!!!!-----I have yanked the a/c out of almost every Honda I ever owned. I didn't think I would have so many problems putting one in.

I was taking some pics to show will my *unknown Brand* header to Will and I took a pick of how I took care of my cables hanging close to my exhaust. I replaced the zip ties that were wrapped around the bolt with this-

Unknown header and how it had to be modified to keep from hitting the shifter box-

Not to rain on your parade but that is the worse soldering job I have ever seen

This is how you are supposed to solder a connection

This is my Hondata 05-06' Kpro Harness (man, I really wish Hybrid made these so I wouldn't have to patch this shitty hondata harness that is always breaking pins)

The connection was first prepped, cleaned, bus wrapped, soldered then heat shrink wrapped, this insures a good connection. Every splice in my wiring of my car was done like this. It takes a bit of time but the end results are worth it. The connectors that you see in the picture have also gotten this same treatment but I decided to put quick connect fittings onto them to accept my wiring from my boost control solenoid, high low boost switch and my wideband. A good connection insures no electrical problems in the future. Also, the wiring I was repairing was a 22gauge harness which is super thin. if this was another sized wire I would have been able to make it even cleaner looking as the bus wrap makes the connection look larger

Coming from my experience with wiring cars, building harnesses and fixing other peoples problems in the last 5 or so years, that is NOT the worst job I've ever seen.

You think that is bad? Come take a look at the box of used harnesses that I've got from customers that cut and twist 12v and ground wires together..some use duct tape. At least he took the time to cover and protect them which is ultimately the main goal. Those aren't extremely critical wires like your ECU pins.

Carry on with the progress, I'd love to see more updates Casey.

Not trying to be a dick, lol. Just warning you. The solder joints are the weak links and they also have a degree of resistance to them. That can mess with your electrical signal and the solder when its too big cracks easily.

I guess I am just being anal, lol At least you went to do it the right way instead of butt connecting it.

I made a drive to Hybrid the other day and picked up a couple of things. I picked up a polished fuel rail, more mount urethane, throttle cable, heater hose adapter, coolant port adapter, swivel thermastat housing, and shifter bushings. All the Hybrid staff are very courteous and proffesional. Thanks Again. Thanks David.

Man, all these parts look nice. I wish they made all these parts a 5 years ago when I did our first K-swap it would have made our lives alot easier. We were just glad to be able to have mounts back then. We had to build alot of the parts from scratch.

David, you need to let us build a K-swap for some of you guys with all your swap parts for a track toy. I want to see how easy it would be to build a full k-swap from nothing but Hybrid parts. :D

Come to think of it I am buying a bone stock 95' EG next week from a girl in town. Chasis has 200k on it but other than a little passenger side dent and a crack on the front bumper the car is pretty damn straight for a car of that age. That little SOHC is going to be begging to be pulled. Too bad I can't afford it right now. The RSX has drained my pockets, lol.

That's pretty much what mine is. Though I have a water leak in the chasis that I can't figure out were it's coming from. I've got everything out except the dash and only know that it's only getting water in on the drivers side. I've got a good idea, but I've got to pulled the sunroof to make sure.

you should look into the aem bypass valves. they have em in all diameters. I came so close to hydro locking a few months ago in baton rouge :( it was scary.

I now have one on my car and it doesn't affect performance or anything just if it senses a vacuum greater than what it should be little flaps open and suck air from inside the bay....

Thank You for that information. If you check my h22 hatch setup on the first page you will see the DC2 ITR intake I was running. There is a draw bridge I have to go over that believe it or not has water pooled up on the top when it rains. I sucked in water using that setup. I put the car in nuetral and feathered the accelerator untill it acted normal again. I am not sure wether or not using a cold air with the bypass will work on my application. I will investigate it more though. I really appreciate the info though. Have a great day----Casey

I am working on my fuel lines. I almost completed them today but had to do some work at church. I did get a chance to move my fpr under my intake manifold. I assembled all of my lines. I just have to get a new fuel filter tommorow and hook it up.

I received my brake lines today. This will be the first time ever installing braided brake lines on my car. I have owned several Hondas but never got aroung to switching.Yesterday I picked up a master cylinder from a 91 civic ex sedan. It is a direct replacement but it boasts a 15/16 piston instead of factory 13/16.
Then of course the 40/40 prop valve that I have to switch out the mounting bracket with mine.
The only thing Ieft that I want to do to my brakes is the EP3 rear conversion. With that I only need the 4x100 ep3 rotors, hangers, and pads. I get to keep the actual gsr caliper. The only thing stopping me is the caliper hanger from the ep3. All the other parts can be found at my local parts store.

I was going to put my brake lines, master cylinder, and prop valve on today, but I got side tracked. My wife wanted a pedicure so I got a chance to hang out with my son one on one. As much as I love working on my car, I LOVE hanging out with the fam. While he napped, I decided I would try and take the Prop valve apart.(I need to switch out the mounting brackets) I have no idea why Honda uses those security bolts for the prop valve, because they are a pain in the butt to remove. I tried the trusty vise grips(Thats what worked on the srs system). Yeah one bolt took 45min. Right before I picked up my little girl at school I went and picked up the $5 security bit. When I finally got it apart, it was funky!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So since this is my "clean-her-up" build, I was thinking it might be a good idea that I cleaned it up.

Sure I would like real Spoon wheels or the chance to build an all motor k24, but family comes first. And to see things like this axle are awesome to me. I read of a couple of people hating on the DSS axles on another site, but I got VERY good customer service not only from Lee but from David as well. As most of you know I bought the car from someone else, so I am not the original owner of the axles and Lee STILL took care of it.

Again Thank you Lee and staff at The Drive Shaft Shop, you are awesome!!!!!!! And David thank you for your continued support of all my stupid questions.

Yall have a great day-----Casey

Casey, any updates on the engine?

:-D

I'm still looking for a k24a2 block. I'm still debating wether to stay k20 or not.

My debate-

spend $1200-$1500 on cams and springs

or-

do what you said--get a tsx block and frank it, enjoy an oem monster and be happy

or-

find a crv block and build it with tsx crank, new rods, and 11.5 pistons

My only concern is the constant wheel spin that we talked about. That wasn't the first time I heard of that. Decisions, desisions--Just trying to make the right one for me and the fam. Want to do it right the first time buddy.

First off getting this motor out of my Element ( by myself) was fun. It is HEAVY! I went over this thing looking at everything. I checked the dipstick, looked inside the oil fill hole, and inside all the intake ports. Everything is very clean. Just a littl dusty. On to the pics.

I guess I will spend my 100th post with another dumb question. Why can't I use the k20 water pump with the oil cooler on my k24? I was looking through the article saying the k24 had to be machined to accept the oil cooler/ water pump. My block looks as if it has the hole from the factory. Am I missing something?
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g302/CaseyCoker/IMG_0766-1.jpg
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g302/CaseyCoker/IMG_0768.jpg

I got my blox intake manifold gasket in and made sure it fit the block. Besides a little trim here and there, it is a direct fit. The manifold on the other hand is a mess. So I thought I would make the best of it, and get to work.

Damn Casey, you sure are putting in work on that thing.

However, the answer to your question is yes and no. lol You're no missing anything, however there are some K24's that have it and some that don't. The Element and Accord motors are mainly the blocks you have to deal with.

Keep up the awesome work bro and let me know when you get to wrenching on this thing, I may head your way.

The whole reason I am in this pickle is that I got in my car the other day and couldn't put it in gear after starting. Two days before, I got caught in a bad T-storm early in the morning with waters up to my doors. Its hard having a car with no fender gap in New Orleans! Anyway first gear was slipping a little while inching through the water. Two days Iater I went to go to work-----Couldn't get it in gear. Turned the car off and went in real smooth. Figured if I had to take the motor and tranny out why not put the K24 in.

I don't think that I'll need any of those ports.

I will end up pulling the brake booster port out and filling it in then drilling and tapping a hole on the bottom of it so I can run an AN fitting to my booster.

-non SRS black dash with all black climate control (been a hard to come by item for me)
-new armrest
-new lip
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g302/CaseyCoker/IMG_1368.jpg

Thank you Brett for such an awesome deal!

The dash needed some plastic welding done due to cracks and there was one peice that had actually broke off. I should be finished with that soon. I finished polishing both door handles and I am working on another item that should be done real soon too.

I need to purchase all new ball joints, wheel bearings, bushings, and paint. I think I am going to go with the Paradis blue green. It has grown on me and it looks stock.

your addtiction to polishing has inspired me to go all out with whatever i can polish.haha nice work man!

Thank you! I am actually holding myself back with polishing. I want everything to compliment each other and not look too tacky. Trust me I debate what to polish because there is ALOT that can be polished.

Today I received some parts from Honda including-
2 lower ball joints
2 tie rod ends L&R
2 inner tie rod ends
2 dust boots with clips
3 block off plates for my console

I also received my bushings for the lca where the shock fork goes-
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g302/CaseyCoker/IMG_1416.jpg

I ordered "new" headlights too. There are only a couple other things I think I need. I might just bite the bullet and order a new bumper cover. The one I have from certifit doesn't impress me with the fitment. Does anyone have an oem front bumper cover in good condition they want to sell?
I also will be making a trip out to the junk yard again to pull the lower control arms assembly L&R so I don't have any down time. I am going to get that and some other stuff powder coated hoping to make it last. I need to grab the drivers side dash support as well.

It wasn't that expensive... just depends on what you want him to do.

It was a couple hundred bucks to do all of the suspension, then about $350 to do all of the wheels.

kinda of a noob and dumb question off the main subject.

what are you using to polish such things as plastic? and would it work to polish a car by hand. after a polish what do you have to do? wax?

and awesome thread you have here mang.

Polishing plastic is easy. The way you can tell if you can polish it is if it powders when you sand it. If it doesn't powder, it cannot be polished.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by polishing a whole car. But if you mean paint, yes you can polish by hand. BUT it is a very delicate process that needs alot of research on your part if you plan on DIY.

This is where I learned to polish.

It's the quietest exhaust I have ever had!

Had some down time and thought I would get rid of some parts I had accumulated on my bookshelf.

Thats pretty neat Casey. I can see why you would coat the underside and all behind the bumper...

Why the inside of the tailights and trunk jam?

Why the inside of the tailights and trunk jam?

Because I found a couple of places where rust was forming. And I figured this stuff would last a good long time. I plan on doing under my wiper cowl, gas door cap and hole, and under all four wheel wells.

This is what I did today. I used Herculiner. This stuff is bad to the bone. If this stuff sticks to the metal like it does to my hands, I will be good to go.

Prepping takes a LOOOOOONG time. But worth it.

Before..............

And this is the 3rd car where this crap just lifts out with little effort. I guess with the heat down here there is no need for dry ice.

It was pretty late when I finished, I will get some good day shots later.

I had some eg6 power folding mirrors up for sell and wanted to take them apart to prove that they were indeed power folding. I am actually think about keeping them now. I would love to have CraftSquare mirrors but I'm not spending that much time to find a set let alone pay that much for them.

Dirty,dirty,dirty..

Man I drove to Mississippi today to pick an oem front bumper. I asked the guy several timeson the phone if it was a Certifit or a replacement bumper. He assured me that it was an original bumper. I drove all the way out there for a Certifit bumper! He wanted $75 for it. I kindly refused stating a brand new Certifit costs $40. Oh well, guess I just need to spend the money and order it from Honda.

I received my strut bar in the mail today. I have to say this is the worst packaged item I have ever seen.
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g302/CaseyCoker/IMG_1733.jpg
It has some scratches and dings that I want to polish out. I started with 320 wet and rubbed, and rubbed , and rubbed. I went outside and tried some paint stripper...nothing. Tommorow I will try some oven cleaner. It must have an anodized clear coating.

I dont own a teggy so no R for me.

I was right about the ITR strut bar. It was clear anodized. Broke out the Heavy duty oven cleaner, let it sit in the sun and it came bubling off. I prepped and Herculined under my wiper cowl and my gas cap cover and hole. I also painted my wipers too.

*****Warning!- This stuff will burn the crap out of anything it touches. Make sure to use somewhere the wind is NOT blowing. Keep water close to you in case it gets on your skin.
And it works really good in direct sunlight.

I might put an "hr" sticker on there. Kind of like the DC on the te37s Block drives.

Just finished one wheel and one strut bar.
